Microsoft Xbox App Update for PC Promises 60% Faster Startup
Microsoft has released a significant update to its Xbox application for Windows, introducing a redesigned user interface and substantial performance improvements. The update promises up to 60% faster startup times and enhanced navigation for social features and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with the changes initially available to Xbox Insiders before a wider public release.
Microsoft has released a major update to its Xbox application for Windows, introducing a redesigned user interface and substantial performance improvements. The update promises up to 60% faster startup times and enhanced navigation for social features and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The technical overhaul aims to streamline the user experience on personal computers. According to Microsoft, central pages such as Home, Store, and Game Pass now load up to 50% faster than in previous versions. Internal application windows have also seen improved response times, with gains of up to 65% reported.
Structural changes have been made to the app's navigation system. The social section has been integrated directly into the main toolbar, allowing users to access their friend lists and social resources without navigating to a separate tab where it was previously hidden. Additionally, Microsoft has updated filters and introduced new ways to organize the game library.
The update also brings changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming in the browser. A new library tab centralizes access to titles, whether purchased individually or part of the Game Pass catalog, facilitating cloud streaming. The web interface now includes a Desktop mode optimized for larger screens and new contrast options.
These improvements extend beyond the PC platform. Parallel updates to Xbox Cloud Gaming on Smart TVs and virtual reality devices have allowed users to use their smartphones as controllers during streaming sessions.
The Windows app update is currently being distributed exclusively to members of the Xbox Insiders program. Microsoft has stated that the full version will be available to the general public at a future date.
