Musiala extends Bayern contract until 2030
Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga giants until 2030, the club announced on Friday.
Musiala, still just 21, has emerged as a key player for club and country, making nearly 200 appearances already for Bayern.
"I took my first steps in professional football here and firmly believe we can achieve something big with this club in the coming years," Musiala said in a statement.
"We've got a lot of things we want to achieve. I'm excited for everything that's to come."
Bayern made the announcement a day before facing defending champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Bayern sit eight points ahead of second-placed Leverkusen, with 13 games remaining.
German tabloid Bild reported Musiala has a two-level release clause inserted into his contract. The release clause is reportedly set at 175 million euros ($183 million) two years before his contract expires, and falls to 100 million in the final year.
Under the new deal, Musiala is expected to rank alongside England captain Harry Kane as one of Bayern's top earners, on a deal worth 25 million euros per season.
His previous deal was last extended in 2021 and was set to expire in 2026.
A product of the Chelsea academy who represented England's youth teams as a teenager, the Stuttgart-born Musiala switched allegiances to Germany in 2021 while still just 17.
Since then Musiala has played 38 times for Germany, scoring seven goals.
He moved to Bayern in the summer of 2019 and made his first-team debut the following June, becoming the club's youngest ever player in the Bundesliga at the time.
Bayern won their sixth European title two months later although Musiala did not feature in the 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said Musiala "is shaping the present at Bayern and will also shape the future," calling him "one of the most coveted players in the world".
"Players like him allow us to send out a clear message to everyone that Bayern are a force to be reckoned with in the future."
For Bayern, Musiala has emerged as the heir apparent to Thomas Mueller in attacking midfield, while gradually replacing the veteran as the face of the club.
Musiala is currently on course for his most prolific season, with 15 goals in 30 games in all competitions -- one short of his tally in the 2022-23 campaign.
