Ex-Milan captain Calabria loaned to Bologna after coach row
Deposed AC Milan captain Davide Calabria has been loaned to Bologna until the end of the season after an on-pitch row with coach Sergio Conceicao a week ago.
"Bologna have acquired AC Milan defender Davide Calabria on a temporary basis until June 30, 2025," the club, currently seventh in Serie A, said in a statement.
AC Milan said: "The club would like to thank Davide for the total commitment, professionalism and dedication that he's shown throughout his 18 years with the Rossoneri and wishes him all the best in his personal and professional life going forward."
Italy international Calabria, 28, has spent his entire career at Milan and was part of the team crowned Italian champions in 2022.
Calabria has made 272 appearances for Milan but is out of contract in June.
His last outing for the club on January 26 was overshadowed by a bust-up with the team's new coach after being substituted in the 77th minute.
Raging Conceicao and Calabria had to be kept apart by coaching staff and teammates while fans celebrated Milan's improbable stoppage-time comeback to beat Parma 3-2.
The Portuguese coach who took over from Paulo Fonseca at the end of December took away the captain's armband and gave it to his French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Calabria was not selected for the Milan derby which ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday, having left the team's training centre in tears last week.
"The last few hours were difficult, it's like when you separate from your wife," he explained.
Milan on Monday also announced the signing of Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord on a deal until 2029.
Gimenez, 23, scored 65 goals in 105 appearances for the Dutch club, helping them win the league in 2023.
