Will Still sacked by struggling Southampton

Southampton sacked manager Will Still on Sunday after just 16 games in charge with the Saints languishing just outside the Championship relegation zone.

The 33-year-old was appointed in May after an impressive start to his coaching career in France with Reims and Lens.

However, he won only two of 13 league games at St. Mary's and departs with Southampton just one place and three points above the relegation zone.

"Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results," said Southampton technical director Johannes Spors.

"Ultimately that process has taken longer than any of us would have liked. By making a change now we believe it gives us the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back up the league table."

Already angered by last season's relegation from the Premier League, Southampton fans made their displeasure clear by calling for owners Sport Republic to "get out of our club" during Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Preston.
