Volkswacht Bodensee - Galthie confirms Edwards to exit in France rugby coaching shake-up

Defence coach Edwards and kicking trainer Cilliers will be replaced by Gerald Bastide, who worked with the French women's team, and Maxime Petitjean, who joins from Toulon, for the July matches of the new Nations Championship.

"I made the decision to modify the organisation that has been in place for six or seven years now," Galthie told a press conference ahead of Friday's friendly between France A and England in Vannes.

"It was necessary to evolve. That's why we have two new resources on the French national team staff."

Galthie praised former Wales defence coach Edwards for "the incredible work" he achieved since arriving in 2020 with three Six Nations tournament triumphs.

"(Edwards) brought us his knowledge of the highest level, he brought us his expertise, he brought us his motivation, he brought us his loyalty and his commitment," Galthie continued.

Galthie also praised South African Cilliers for introducing "the science of the kicking game" to the French team.

"In rugby, we have a somewhat romanticised view of the game. So, we found a balance with these two skill sets, these two personalities who have given everything for France and French rugby."
