Wallabies skipper Wilson has knee surgery, to miss start of Super Rugby

Wallabies skipper Harry Wilson is set to miss the early rounds of the Super Rugby season after undergoing minor knee surgery, his club Queensland Reds said on Saturday.

The big No.8 damaged his knee in August when leading Australia to victory over South Africa at Ellis Park, their first win at the venue in 62 years.

He was forced off after scoring the second of his two tries.

The Reds said the 36-Test veteran underwent clean-up surgery in Brisbane on Friday and was expected to be sidelined for about six weeks.

They face the NSW Waratahs in their season opener on February 13.

"It's great news that the surgery has gone well," said Reds coach Les Kiss, who will take over from Joe Schmidt as Australia coach later this year.

"The opportunity now is for our other Reds backrowers to step up and show their wares."
