Volkswacht Bodensee - Alpine release reserve driver Doohan ahead of F1 season

Last season he failed to finish in three of his six starts and had a best of 14th in Bahrain.

The 22-year-old, son of motorcycle great Mick Doohan, replaced Frenchman Esteban Ocon at Alpine at the end of 2024, before being named a starter for 2025.

But he was dropped to reserve driver after his retirement in Miami in May.

Alpine said it had "reached a mutual agreement with Jack Doohan to not continue his driving services" to "allow him to pursue other career opportunities".

The Franco-British team, however, praised his "commitment and professionalism toward the team over the past four years, both on and off the track".

Doohan's replacement, Argentina's Franco Colapinto, fared no better, also collecting zero points at the wheel of the worst car on the grid.

Alpine finished bottom of the constructors' championship with just 22 points, all secured by Frenchman Pierre Gasly.

Gasly and Colapinto have been confirmed as starters for the coming season which will see a completely revamped car in line with new regulations, and a Mercedes power unit replacing the one supplied by Renault last season.
