Wilson drills game-winner as Aces hold off Mercury in WNBA Finals
Las Vegas star A'ja Wilson drained a turnaround jump shot with .3 seconds left as the Aces held off Phoenix 90-88 on Wednesday to move within one win of lifting the WNBA title.
Wilson, who scooped up a fourth WNBA Most Valuable Player award this season, finished with 34 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots for the Aces, who took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven WNBA Finals and can complete a sweep in game four on Friday.
Guard Jackie Young added 21 points and nine assists and Jewell Loyd scored 16 points off the bench for the Aces, who took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Mercury, hoping to turn the tables on their home floor after dropping the first two games in Las Vegas, sliced the deficit to 84-83 on Kahleah Copper's three-pointer with 3:06 to play.
DeWanna Bonner tied it at 86-86 with a three-pointer with 1:33 remaining and Bonner tied it again, 88-88, with a pair of free throws with 1:01 remaining.
But Wilson came through with the game-winner over Alyssa Thomas to put the Aces on the brink of their third title in four seasons, after triumphs in 2022 and 2023.
Bonner led the Mercury's scoring with 25 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Satou Sabally added 24 points before exiting in the fourth quarter after taking a blow to the head as she chased a rebound.
