World champion Marquez crashes out of Indonesia MotoGP
Newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez crashed out of the Indonesia MotoGP in the opening lap on Sunday after a nasty collision with polesitter Marco Bezzecchi.
Aprilia's Bezzecchi slid from first to seventh after the start before trying to overtake Marquez's Ducati, slamming into the back of him and sending both tumbling into the gravel.
Both walked away from the crash at the Mandalika circuit in Lombok, with Marquez seen clutching his right shoulder.
Spain's Marquez has a long history of injuries, including breaking his right arm in 2020, almost forcing him to hang up his helmet.
The 32-year-old put all that aside this season to clinch his seventh world title in dominant fashion.
He sealed the world crown at Motegi in Japan last weekend with five events to spare.
It was his first MotoGP world title since 2019.
