Commenting on the start of the week of protests, Birgit Bessin, Chairwoman of the AfD Brandenburg, said:
"Many SMEs in Germany, many family businesses, self-employed people and tradespeople have only just been lucky enough to overcome the intolerable corona measures. Unfortunately, many have not made it and have given up. And once again, established politicians are beginning to threaten the livelihoods of those who remain with intolerable redistributions totalling billions.

Text size:

The concerns and needs of our citizens must not only be heard, but the problems must be abolished and not only bearable, but positive prospects for the future must be created. Farmers, SMEs, craftsmen and many others want a future for our economy and society in which commitment, diligence and labour are worthwhile again. The self-employed must not feel like a squeezed lemon who has to satisfy the money redistribution fantasies of government politicians all over the world with every euro and is robbed of his last free time by excessive bureaucracy. We would like to see the state and administration as partners of hard-working self-employed people, craftsmen, farmers and tradespeople. It goes without saying that our tax money must first and foremost be used for our citizens.

The short-sighted sanctions policy, the coal and nuclear phase-out, an ideology-driven alleged climate policy, the EU Green Deal, inflationary monetary policy, the consequences of mass migration, etc. are destroying what has been built up over decades, but in most cases without creating anything new.

Neither the farmers nor the rest of the people are serfs of the state. It is now about more than just agricultural diesel. It is about self-determination, freedom and a secure future.

Yes, it is time for the people to rise up peacefully and exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to demonstrate for a nationwide mass protest to show peacefully that they have had enough of this remote, aloof policy that jeopardises the welfare state. The AfD in Brandenburg will continue to support the protest week and join in again. I appreciate the organisers of the many actions. We are available to talk to everyone. Because we are ready to shape politics in a citizen-centred and problem-solving manner."
